Building a Climate Movement That Feels Like Home
Join us at our launch party during SF Climate Week, links to our upcoming events this month, and other events you need to be at during climate week!
Here’s a hot take: We’ve been trying to fix the climate crisis without fixing one of the biggest things that got us into this mess (and it’s not what you think): loneliness.
For real. Over the past few decades, we’ve stopped doing the things that bring people together—joining clubs, throwing dinner parties, even just getting to know our neighbors. And it’s messing with more than just our social lives. When people don’t know each other, trust breaks down. Democracy weakens. Movements fall apart before they even start.
If you’ve seen the documentary Join or Die or read any of Robert Putnam’s work, you get it: less connection = more chaos.
The climate movement is full of smart ideas, innovative products, and urgent goals. But we’re not spending enough time building the relationships that actually make change stick.
We’ve seen this work before.
Take the women’s suffrage movement. It wasn’t just a few bold speeches that won women the right to vote; it was years of meetings in living rooms, organizing over tea, writing letters, marching side by side, and building tight-knit networks across cities and states. The reason it worked? Relationships. Women who trusted each other, supported each other, and kept going even when the odds felt impossible.
Social change doesn’t just come from ideas. It comes from people showing up for each other, over and over.
Inspired by the changemakers of past, we started Climate Action Club—a new community for young professionals in the Bay Area who want to take meaningful action on climate, and have fun while doing it. We’re creating space for people to forge meaningful connections, share ideas, and support each other.
We’re so excited to continue bringing you along this journey as we prepare to *officially* launch our organization (info to register for our launch event during SF Climate Week below)!
