We Launched a Climate Community (and You All Showed Up!)
Huge thank you and reflections from our launch party + links to our upcoming events!
Launch Recap 🚀
Last week during SF Climate Week, we officially launched Climate Action Club — and over 90 people (!!) joined us at The Commons to celebrate our new nonprofit status. The evening celebrated the start of our journey as a nonprofit, and it was such a joy to gather with this growing community. Huge thanks to IEEE for sponsoring the event and making it all possible, The Commons for hosting us in their space, and Build IRL for helping bring this to life.
Throughout the night, we shared food and drinks, connected with some new and familiar faces, and dove into a powerful conversation with David Jay and Kiana Kazemi about the role of community in affecting systemic change.
David spoke about how social isolation and the climate crisis are deeply intertwined — and how relationships built through movements can sustain us through uncertainty. Kiana reflected on the power of storytelling to help people locate themselves within the climate crisis and find agency. Their words were a grounding reminder that community is not a side note to climate action — it’s a core solution.
We also had a chance to share our vision for Climate Action Club and what’s coming next (more on that in an upcoming post!). One thing was clear: this kind of space is needed. We heard from so many of you that you’ve been craving more in-person connection, more conversation, and more meaningful ways to plug in. We couldn’t agree more.
Why Community Matters 🌍
Throughout the week, at event after event and at this event, we heard a shared theme: being in community helps ease climate anxiety and sustains long-term action. For us, building this club — and being in the room with you all — affirmed that belief. Climate work can be daunting. But together, it feels possible.
Featured: Systems Thinking Workshop (May 10)🧠
If you’re looking to dive deeper into your climate work and move beyond surface-level solutions, this workshop is for you.
What if the climate crisis is just one piece of a larger web of interconnected challenges? What would it look like to address the root causes — not just the symptoms?
Join us on May 10 for a hands-on afternoon of systems mapping, dialogue, and reflection. You’ll leave with new tools, a systems lens, and a clearer sense of how your unique strengths can support meaningful change.
In this workshop, we’ll:
Map the system — unpack the drivers and worldviews behind the crisis
Understand change — explore how change happens across different layers
Apply systems thinking — evaluate real-world solutions and trade-offs
Reflect on our role — consider where we fit in the bigger picture
